About Project Home Calc

Project Home Calc is a free library of material-quantity and planning-cost calculators for homeowners, landlords, and small project planners in the US and UK. You do not need an account. Open a tool, enter dimensions, and read a quantity with the formula on the same page — then use a guide when you want the “why” behind waste, thickness, or a quote line.

We built the site because material orders go wrong in predictable ways: wrong depth, forgotten waste, lump-sum quotes that hide assumptions, and bag counts that looked fine until the pour started. The calculators exist to make those numbers checkable before you spend money.

Who runs it

We write and maintain the calculators and guides ourselves. There is no anonymous content farm behind the pages. If a result looks wrong, email shoaib.octachat@gmail.com with the tool URL and the inputs you used. We do not invent fake reviews, fake credentials, or fake user counts.

When we change a default (for example a typical waste percentage or a bag yield), we update the tool’s “last updated” note and the related guide where it matters.

What you will find here

  • Calculators for concrete, gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, paint, wallpaper, tile, flooring, roofing, decking, fencing, insulation, drywall, and related cost ranges
  • Guides with worked numbers: patio cost, bag vs truck concrete, waste factors, quote comparison, measuring rooms, and more
  • Trust pages: how we calculate, data sources, assumptions, and reference charts

Every public calculator page follows the same pattern: short intro, interactive tool, plain-language method, formula, worked example, and FAQ.

How a result is produced

Each tool uses geometry and stated defaults you can see and change. Cost lines are planning bands from typical national prices — not a supplier quote and not a promise of what you will pay locally. Unit toggles support feet/inches and metres/centimetres; switching converts what you already typed instead of wiping the form.

We would rather show a range and a caveat than a single confident number that pretends regional pricing does not exist.

Editorial standards

  • Prefer clear steps and worked examples over filler
  • State what the calculator does not include (permits, structural design, soil reports, decorative labour)
  • Link related tools and guides so you can move from quantity to context without hunting
  • Keep ads (if enabled) labelled and away from Calculate controls — we never ask anyone to click ads

What we don’t claim

These tools do not replace a site visit, a structural design, an engineer’s stamp, or a local contractor’s price. Confirm quantities before you order, and check code for anything structural. See the disclaimer.

Funding

The site may show labelled ads (for example Google AdSense) and, later, labelled partner links. Ads stay off calculator controls and results. We don’t ask anyone to click ads. Partner blocks stay hidden until a real URL exists.

Privacy in one line

Calculator inputs stay in your browser unless you choose to contact us. See Privacy and Cookies.
